Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, international city with busy urban districts, green country parks, beaches and outlying islands. Hospitality, retail, finance, technology, logistics and education provide many job opportunities, while hotels regularly recruit housekeeping, food service and guest-service staff. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences; English is widely used in business, although Cantonese is valuable for daily life and many service roles. Living is convenient, with excellent public transport, but accommodation can be expensive and space is limited. Overseas employees normally need an employment visa sponsored by a confirmed employer, and applicants must meet immigration and qualification requirements. Employers commonly assist with documentation, but this should be confirmed before accepting an offer. New arrivals should arrange housing, a local bank account, medical coverage and an Octopus travel card.
