Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, aviation, finance, technology and international business. Hotel employees can expect a multicultural workplace, structured public transport and a fast-paced but organised lifestyle. English is widely used, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. Popular areas for living include Orchard, River Valley, Tiong Bahru, East Coast and neighbourhoods near MRT stations. Rent can be high, so shared accommodation is common for entry-level workers. Singapore has excellent healthcare, safety, food and public services, although daily expenses are generally above regional averages. Foreign employees usually need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and sector rules. The employer normally submits the application to the Ministry of Manpower. Candidates should confirm pass eligibility, accommodation and relocation costs before accepting an offer.
