Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, professional services and regional corporate functions. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international business practices, excellent food and a fast-paced urban lifestyle. Housing can be expensive, but public transport is efficient, healthcare is advanced and nearby beaches, hiking trails and islands provide a welcome escape from the city. Foreign professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer; applications commonly require a confirmed job offer, relevant qualifications and proof that the role cannot readily be filled locally. Employers often assist with visa processing and relocation, although housing allowances vary. New arrivals should budget carefully for rent, deposits, insurance and daily expenses. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is commonly used in business, hospitality and government services.
