Destination Guide

Indonesia offers culinary opportunities across Bali, Java, Lombok and other resort islands, particularly in luxury hotels, beach resorts, restaurants and private villas. Bali is the most internationally developed market, with strong demand for Chinese, pan-Asian and fine-dining chefs, although living costs and competition are higher. Java provides larger urban markets in Jakarta, Surabaya and Bandung. Indonesian culture values hospitality, family, religious diversity and respectful workplace relationships. Lifestyle options range from busy cities to relaxed coastal communities, with tropical weather, varied food and extensive outdoor activities. Foreign employees generally need employer sponsorship for a work permit and limited-stay KITAS; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers may assist with immigration, accommodation, flights and tax registration. Candidates should verify current regulations, contract terms and benefits before relocating, and consider healthcare access, housing, transportation and local language basics.
