Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotel finance, tourism, retail, shared services and international business, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Johor. Island locations such as Langkawi and Penang provide a relaxed lifestyle, beaches, good food and multicultural communities, while city locations offer broader professional networks and amenities. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English commonly used in business and hospitality. Living costs vary considerably; resort islands can be more expensive for housing and imported goods. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with approval and eligibility handled through the company and Malaysian authorities before starting work. Candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, medical coverage, tax treatment and relocation support in writing. International schools, transport and healthcare are accessible, though remote resort areas may have fewer choices than major cities.
