Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but a federation of seven emirates on the Arabian Peninsula, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering especially strong opportunities in hotels, tourism, food and beverage, events, retail and business services. The culture blends Emirati traditions with a highly international population; modest dress and respect for local customs are appreciated. Lifestyle options range from beaches, shopping and desert activities to museums, sports and lively dining scenes. Summers are extremely hot, while winter is generally pleasant. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and residence visa, with medical checks and Emirates ID registration. UAE nationals applying through Emiratisation programmes follow local employment and social-insurance requirements. Employers may provide accommodation, transport, insurance or meals, but packages vary, so confirm these details before accepting an offer. Major cities have excellent airports, public transport and international communities.
