Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in banking, technology, shared services, software, manufacturing, tourism, and customer operations. Kuala Lumpur is the main financial and corporate hub, while Penang is known for electronics, technology, and a relaxed island lifestyle. Langkawi and other coastal destinations offer beaches and a slower pace, although most professional roles are concentrated in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor, and major mainland cities. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business. Living costs are moderate compared with Singapore, though central Kuala Lumpur housing is more expensive. Public transport is improving, and food, healthcare, and shopping are convenient. Foreign employees normally need an Employment Pass sponsored by their employer; approval depends on the role, salary, qualifications, and immigration requirements. Relocating candidates should budget for deposits, insurance, documents, and initial accommodation.
