Destination Guide

Japan offers opportunities in hotels, restaurants, bakeries, tourism, technology, education and manufacturing, especially in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka and resort areas. The culture values punctuality, cleanliness, respect, teamwork and careful attention to detail. Life in Japan is generally safe and convenient, with excellent public transport, though Tokyo accommodation and daily costs can be high. Employees should expect structured workplaces, seasonal weather and demanding schedules in hospitality. Foreign workers normally need an appropriate work visa arranged with employer support; a Certificate of Eligibility is commonly required before applying at a Japanese embassy or consulate. A valid passport, employment contract, qualifications and background documents may be needed. Learning practical Japanese greatly improves workplace communication and everyday life. New arrivals should arrange housing, resident registration, health insurance and a bank account after arrival.
