Destination Guide

Indonesia offers varied opportunities across its major islands. Java, including Jakarta, is the country's main business hub and provides the strongest prospects in hotels, events, finance, technology and corporate services. Bali has extensive opportunities in tourism, resorts, restaurants, wellness and events, while Lombok, Sumatra, Sulawesi and the Indonesian islands of eastern Indonesia offer growing hospitality and development markets. Life can be fast-paced in Jakarta and more relaxed in resort areas. Indonesian culture values hospitality, community, respect and religious diversity; modest, considerate behaviour is appreciated. Foreign nationals generally need an employer-sponsored work permit and the appropriate limited-stay work visa, with requirements depending on nationality and position. Employers normally guide the application process. Before relocating, research housing, healthcare, transport, schooling and local tax obligations. Learning basic Indonesian is highly useful for daily life and workplace relationships.
