Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city-state and a major regional hub for hospitality, finance, technology, trade and professional services. Job opportunities are strong for experienced HR, hotel operations and corporate-services professionals, although competition is high and employers usually prioritize relevant qualifications and regional experience. The culture is multicultural, efficient and generally business-oriented, with English widely used at work. Lifestyle options range from modern shopping districts and international dining to hawker centres, parks, beaches and nearby islands such as Sentosa and Pulau Ubin. Public transport is reliable, while housing and daily expenses can be expensive. Foreign professionals normally require employer-sponsored permission, such as an Employment Pass, subject to government salary and eligibility criteria. Relocation planning should include housing, healthcare, taxes, schooling where relevant and pass approval before starting work.
