Destination Guide

Phuket is Thailand's largest island and a major tourism hub, with job opportunities in hotels, restaurants, spas, tour companies, retail, marine activities and events. English is widely used in hospitality, while Thai language skills are helpful for daily life and career progression. The lifestyle combines beaches, outdoor activities, nightlife and a large international community, although traffic, heat and seasonal tourism fluctuations can be challenging. Popular areas include Nai Yang, Patong, Kata, Karon, Phuket Town and Rawai, each offering a different balance of convenience, nightlife and local culture. Foreign employees generally need a valid Non-Immigrant B visa and work permit arranged with an employer before legally working; requirements can change, so check with the Thai embassy and employer. Relocation costs, housing deposits and health insurance should be planned in advance. Local staff may find commuting or employer accommodation more practical than renting independently.
