Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in customer service, shared services, logistics, aviation, technology, manufacturing and tourism. Major employment centres include Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and Sabah. Penang is especially attractive for logistics and technology workers, with a strong multicultural atmosphere, excellent food, beaches and a relaxed lifestyle. Langkawi offers a quieter island setting and tourism-related work, while Sabah and Sarawak provide outdoor activities and distinctive local cultures. Malaysia is generally affordable compared with many developed countries, although housing costs are higher in Kuala Lumpur and central Penang. English is widely used in business, alongside Malay, Mandarin and Tamil. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the employer usually handles the application. Candidates should secure a written offer, confirm salary and allowances, check accommodation and healthcare costs, and understand shift-work and transport arrangements before relocating.
