Destination Guide

Japan offers opportunities in technology, travel, hospitality, finance, education, manufacturing, logistics, and international business. Tokyo has the widest range of professional roles, while Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Okinawa provide different lifestyle and industry options. Japanese workplaces often value punctuality, teamwork, respect, preparation, and relationship building; international companies may use more English, but Japanese ability significantly improves career prospects. Living costs are highest in Tokyo, while regional cities can offer more space and lower rent. Public transport is excellent, healthcare is reliable, and the country is generally safe, though work hours and workplace formality vary by employer. Foreign employees normally need an appropriate work visa, commonly the Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa, sponsored by the employer. Candidates should prepare qualifications, employment documents, and proof of education or experience, and arrange housing, insurance, tax registration, and residence procedures after arrival.
