Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in software engineering, cybersecurity, cloud computing, telecommunications, manufacturing, finance, healthcare, tourism, and international business. Tokyo has the largest concentration of technology and corporate jobs, while Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo provide growing alternatives. Japanese workplace culture values punctuality, preparation, respect, teamwork, and careful communication, although global companies often use more flexible practices. Daily life is safe and convenient, with excellent public transport, reliable services, and varied food and entertainment. Housing and commuting costs are highest in Tokyo. Foreign professionals normally need an appropriate work visa, commonly the Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa; employers usually sponsor the application. Highly skilled professionals may qualify for preferential treatment or a faster route to permanent residence. New arrivals should arrange a residence card, local address registration, health insurance, pension enrollment, banking, and tax procedures. Learning practical Japanese greatly improves workplace and community integration.
