Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in technology, software, finance, tourism, logistics, manufacturing, education, and international business, especially in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. The culture values punctuality, reliability, teamwork, respect, and careful communication, while workplaces are becoming more flexible and international. Tokyo provides excellent public transport, dining, entertainment, and career options, but housing and commuting can be expensive. Regional cities and islands offer a quieter lifestyle, lower costs, and access to nature, though English-only jobs are less common. Most foreign professionals need a work-appropriate residence status, usually sponsored by an employer; requirements depend on qualifications and the role. A valid passport, employment contract, relevant degree or experience, and appropriate immigration application are generally required. Learn basic Japanese, prepare for formal workplace etiquette, and budget for deposits, moving costs, health insurance, taxes, and pension contributions.
