Company Info

Rakuten Group, Inc. is a major Japanese internet and technology company founded in 1997 and headquartered in Tokyo. Its businesses span e-commerce, fintech, mobile communications, travel, digital content, advertising, and online services. The company operates a large membership ecosystem that allows customers to earn and use Rakuten Points across many products and platforms. Rakuten Travel and other booking-related services support hotels, transportation, and tourism businesses, while its lifestyle businesses connect consumers with everyday services and experiences. Rakuten is known for its strong entrepreneurial culture, data-driven decision-making, and English-language corporate environment, although Japanese is essential for many domestic roles. Employees commonly work across business units, making collaboration and commercial awareness important. The company offers opportunities to contribute to large-scale digital platforms serving customers and merchants throughout Japan and overseas.

Destination Guide

Japan offers opportunities in technology, e-commerce, finance, tourism, logistics, manufacturing, education, and customer services, especially in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. Its culture values punctuality, respect, teamwork, and attention to detail. Daily life is generally safe and convenient, with excellent public transport, reliable services, and varied food and entertainment. Tokyo has the widest job market but also high housing costs; regional cities can provide a calmer and more affordable lifestyle. Foreign professionals usually need an appropriate work visa, commonly the Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa, sponsored by an employer. Highly skilled workers may qualify for a points-based visa with faster permanent-residence options. Before relocating, arrange housing, health insurance, a residence card, and local registration. Learning Japanese greatly improves workplace communication and everyday integration, even when a company uses English. Japan’s four seasons, regional traditions, and compact geography make travel and exploration especially rewarding.
