Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago of more than 17,000 islands, with the largest hospitality and business opportunities concentrated in Java, Bali, Sumatra, and parts of Sulawesi and Lombok. Jakarta, on Java, offers the broadest range of hotel, restaurant, corporate sales, events, and tourism careers, although traffic and humidity are part of daily life. Bali provides a more resort-focused lifestyle, while Lombok and other islands offer quieter surroundings and growing tourism markets. Indonesian culture values hospitality, respect, family, and relationship-building; Bahasa Indonesia is useful, though English is common in international hotels. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work and stay permit before beginning employment. Relocating candidates should confirm visa support, accommodation, healthcare, tax, and contract terms with the employer. Living costs vary considerably, with Jakarta and Bali generally more expensive than smaller cities and islands.
