Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but it offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, tourism, retail and aviation, especially in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The country is multicultural, modern and generally safe, with a lifestyle centered on work, shopping, dining, beaches and indoor entertainment during the hottest months. Dubai has excellent public transport, while living costs can be high, particularly for accommodation. Islamic customs are important: dress respectfully in public, observe local laws and be considerate during Ramadan. Employers commonly arrange an employment visa, work permit, medical examination and Emirates ID after hiring; employees should not work on a tourist visa. Many hospitality packages include accommodation, meals, transport, insurance and annual leave, but terms vary, so confirm them in writing. New arrivals should budget for deposits, personal expenses and hot-weather clothing.
