Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but it offers a highly international lifestyle across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and coastal resort areas. Hospitality, tourism, aviation, retail, technology, finance and construction provide strong employment opportunities, with hotels frequently recruiting multilingual service and technical staff. Life is modern and convenient, although accommodation and schooling can be expensive in Dubai. The culture blends Emirati traditions with a large expatriate community; modest dress and respect for local customs are expected, particularly during Ramadan. Summers are extremely hot, while winters are warm and popular for outdoor activities. Most expatriate employees need an employer-sponsored residence visa and work permit; medical checks, Emirates ID registration and document attestation may be required. Employers often provide health insurance, transport, accommodation or an allowance, and annual airfare, but packages vary. A valid passport and confirmed employment offer are normally needed before relocation.
