Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi, rather than a single island. It offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, aviation, construction, technology and finance. The culture is multicultural and welcoming, while remaining shaped by Islamic traditions; modest dress and respect for local customs are important. Dubai provides modern malls, beaches, desert activities and an active international lifestyle, although summer temperatures are extremely high and living costs can be significant. Most overseas employees require an employer-sponsored work and residence visa, with the employer normally arranging medical checks, Emirates ID processing and related formalities. Candidates should verify salary, accommodation, transport, insurance, probation and leave terms in writing. Relocation is easier when the package includes housing or a housing allowance. Public transport is good in major cities, and English is widely used in workplaces.
