Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai offering especially strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, construction, aviation, retail and facilities management. Life is modern, international and generally safe, with excellent transport, shopping, beaches and entertainment. Dubai is multicultural, though local customs should be respected: dress modestly in public areas, avoid public arguments and observe regulations concerning alcohol and conduct. Summers are extremely hot, while winters are pleasant. Employers normally sponsor work visas for overseas hires, arrange medical testing and obtain residence authorization after arrival; employees should not work on a tourist visa. Review the written contract carefully for salary, accommodation, transport, insurance, leave and working hours. Relocation costs, document attestation and initial expenses should be planned in advance.
