Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but Abu Dhabi is a coastal emirate with beaches, islands and a highly international lifestyle. Hospitality, tourism, events, aviation, retail, finance and technology provide many employment opportunities, particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The culture blends Islamic traditions with expatriate influences; modest dress, respectful behaviour and awareness of Ramadan customs are appreciated. Lifestyle options include modern malls, restaurants, beaches, desert excursions and excellent infrastructure, although summers are extremely hot. Most foreign employees need employer-sponsored residence and work visas; the employer normally arranges permits, medical checks and Emirates ID processing. Before relocating, confirm the contract, salary, housing or allowance, insurance, flights and probation terms. Abu Dhabi is generally safe, but living costs can be high, especially for housing and schooling.
