Destination Guide

The Maldives offers hospitality opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, diving, wellness, marine activities, engineering, finance, and guest services. Most international workers are employed on resort islands, where accommodation and meals are commonly provided. Maldivian culture is welcoming and strongly influenced by Islam, so modest dress and respectful behavior are expected when visiting local islands. Resort life is peaceful but isolated, with beaches, snorkeling, diving, fishing, and water sports forming much of daily life. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and entry approval; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers usually arrange medical checks, permits, flights, and relocation details, although conditions vary. Before accepting a position, confirm salary, service charge, contract length, leave, insurance, internet access, and travel arrangements. Malé is the main gateway, followed by domestic flight or seaplane transfer to many resorts.
