Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a highly connected international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with extensive ferry, rail and bus services. Hospitality, engineering, finance, retail, technology and professional services offer regular employment opportunities, particularly for experienced international candidates. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, Chinese festivals and food with a strongly global outlook; English is widely used in business and hotels. Life is energetic and convenient, although accommodation is expensive and living space can be limited. New arrivals commonly choose areas such as Hong Kong Island, Kowloon or the New Territories according to budget and commuting needs. Most foreign professionals require an employment visa sponsored by their employer, generally under the General Employment Policy, and should secure an approved offer before relocating. Employers may assist with documentation, housing guidance and onboarding.
