Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with excellent public transport, modern infrastructure and a highly international population. Hospitality is a major employment sector, with opportunities in hotels, restaurants, attractions, events and travel services. The culture combines Malay, Chinese, Indian and Western influences, reflected in its food, festivals and neighbourhoods. Daily life is convenient and generally safe, although accommodation and dining can be expensive. Popular areas include Orchard Road, Marina Bay, Sentosa, Chinatown and Little India, while parks and waterfront spaces provide a break from the city. Foreign workers normally need an approved work pass before starting employment; the employer usually supports the application. Common options depend on qualifications, salary and role, including the Employment Pass or S Pass, while service positions may have specific eligibility rules. Candidates should confirm current requirements with Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower and budget carefully for rent, transport, insurance and relocation costs.
