Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago with major hospitality opportunities in Bali, Jakarta, Java, Lombok and resort islands such as Bintan. Bali is especially attractive for chefs, with strong demand from luxury hotels, restaurants, villas and beach clubs, while Jakarta offers large city hotels, corporate events and international dining. Indonesian culture values hospitality, community, respect for elders and religious diversity. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to relaxed coastal communities, with varied food, tropical weather and generally affordable local transport and services. Foreign employees normally require employer-sponsored work authorisation, commonly involving a work permit and appropriate limited-stay visa or KITAS; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Requirements can change, so candidates should confirm procedures with Shangri-La and Indonesian immigration authorities. Relocation planning should include accommodation, health insurance, tax arrangements, document legalisation and regional travel. Basic Indonesian is useful, although English is common in international hotels.
