Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers employment opportunities in hotels, tourism, restaurants, construction, technology, education, healthcare and business services, with hospitality particularly strong in Colombo, the southern coast, Kandy and resort areas. The culture combines Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and colonial influences, with Buddhist traditions, welcoming communities, colourful festivals and diverse cuisine. Life can be affordable, although Colombo and tourist regions are more expensive than rural areas. Employees should confirm that the employer sponsors the correct work visa or employment approval before travelling; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Relocation usually involves a passport, police clearance, medical documents, qualifications and a signed contract. Accommodation, meals, transport or service charge may be included in hotel roles, so these benefits should be checked carefully. Sri Lanka’s tropical climate, beaches, mountains and rail connections make it attractive for island living.
