The Service Manager – L&D / Service Excellence Manager is responsible for designing and delivering training that strengthens guest service, hospitality standards and employee performance. Candidates should have experience in learning and development, hotel operations or service quality, preferably within a luxury resort environment. Strong communication, presentation and coaching skills are essential, along with the ability to assess training needs, create development plans and measure results. The role expects a practical, guest-focused leader who can work collaboratively with department heads, motivate multicultural teams and maintain Shangri-La service standards. Previous experience in the Maldives or another international resort destination, together with relevant hospitality or training qualifications, would be advantageous.
Shangri-La is a luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong and known for its distinctive Asian-inspired approach to service. The company operates hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international destinations. Its properties focus on warm, personalized guest experiences, strong service culture and high operating standards. Shangri-La’s Maldives presence includes island resorts designed around beaches, marine activities, wellness and premium leisure travel. Employees generally work in multicultural teams and receive exposure to international luxury-hospitality practices. The group places importance on staff development, internal training and career progression. Depending on the property and contract, resort employees may receive accommodation, meals, transportation, medical support, annual leave and return airfare as part of their employment package.
The Maldives offers hospitality opportunities in resorts, hotels, restaurants, diving, watersports, spa services, finance, engineering, guest relations and training. Resort employment is the main route for international workers, while Maldivian communities provide a more local experience outside the resort islands. Life on a resort island is scenic and relaxed, but remote: supplies, healthcare, shopping and entertainment can be limited, and employees often live in shared staff accommodation. The culture is predominantly Muslim, so respectful dress and behavior are expected, particularly on inhabited islands. International employees normally require an employer-sponsored Employment Approval and work visa; the employer usually manages the process after arrival, subject to medical checks and documentation. Confirm salary, accommodation, meals, insurance, airfare, leave and contract conditions before relocating. Travel between islands is generally by speedboat, domestic flight or seaplane, depending on location.
