Destination Guide

Maldives resort islands offer opportunities in hospitality, food and beverage, housekeeping, culinary operations, marine activities, wellness, engineering, finance and guest services. Employment is concentrated in resorts, while Malé and Hulhumalé provide additional roles in tourism, administration, retail and local businesses. The culture is predominantly Muslim, so respectful dress and behaviour are important outside resort areas; alcohol is generally restricted to licensed resorts. Island life is scenic but remote, with warm weather, ocean activities and a close community atmosphere. Resorts usually provide staff housing, meals, uniforms, medical support and transport, though facilities differ between properties. Foreign employees normally require an employer-sponsored work permit and employment approval before working; employers commonly arrange the process. Candidates should confirm airfare, insurance, contract length, service charge, internet access and leave terms before relocating. Malé has more shops and services, while resort islands are quieter and self-contained.
