Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, finance, retail, logistics, technology and professional services. Hotel jobs are concentrated on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and major resort areas, with security roles available in hotels, shopping centres, offices and residential developments. The culture is fast-paced, international and respectful of hierarchy, while Cantonese is widely spoken and English is commonly used in business and hotels. Lifestyle options range from dense urban living and excellent public transport to beaches, hiking trails, islands and vibrant dining districts. Overseas workers generally need an approved employment visa before starting work; the employer normally sponsors the application and must demonstrate a genuine role and suitable salary. Applicants should prepare qualifications, references, a passport and police-clearance documents where requested. Housing is expensive, so many newcomers share accommodation or live farther from central districts. Public transport is reliable, and an Octopus card is useful for daily travel.
