Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, professional services and regional corporate headquarters. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international influences, fast-paced business habits and a strong food scene. Lifestyle options range from dense urban living and excellent shopping to beaches, hiking trails, islands and quiet villages. The MTR and extensive public transport make commuting convenient, although rent is high, especially on Hong Kong Island and in central Kowloon. Most overseas professionals need an employment visa sponsored by their employer; applicants generally require a confirmed job, relevant qualifications or experience and proof of a genuine position. Dependants may usually accompany approved professionals, subject to immigration rules. Before relocating, budget for housing deposits, insurance, schooling if relevant and daily expenses. Learn some Cantonese for local integration, while English is widely used in business and official settings.
