Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong hospitality employment opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and other resort destinations. Penang combines heritage streets, diverse Malay, Chinese and Indian culture, excellent food and a lively urban lifestyle. Langkawi provides a more relaxed island setting, beaches, nature activities and a resort-focused job market. Accommodation, transport and living costs vary, with island locations sometimes offering staff housing or meals. Malaysia is culturally diverse, generally welcoming and English is widely used in hotels. Foreign nationals normally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer; the company must obtain approval before work begins, and requirements depend on nationality, salary and role. Candidates should confirm visa sponsorship, accommodation, medical coverage, working hours and relocation assistance directly with Shangri-La. Local bank, tax and immigration registration may also be required after arrival.
