Destination Guide

Malaysia is a multicultural country with strong opportunities in tourism, hotels, restaurants, sales, technology, finance and education. Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and parts of Sarawak offer island or coastal lifestyles, while Kuala Lumpur provides the widest corporate job market. Local culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with excellent food, festivals and generally welcoming communities. Living costs are moderate compared with many international business hubs, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular resort areas can be more expensive. English is widely used in hospitality and business, while Malay is the national language. Foreign professionals normally require an Employment Pass sponsored by their employer; the company must meet immigration requirements before work begins. Relocating candidates should arrange passport validity, medical checks, accommodation and tax registration. Malaysia has tropical weather, efficient domestic flights and ferries, and good access to Southeast Asia.
