Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hospitality, procurement, tourism, retail, technology, manufacturing, and shared services. Major employment centres include Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, and other resort destinations. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in hotels and business settings. Lifestyle costs vary: Kuala Lumpur is urban and well connected, while island destinations offer a slower, outdoor-focused environment but may have fewer services. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, and they must meet immigration and sector requirements before starting work. Employers commonly assist with documentation, medical checks, and relocation arrangements. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, benefits, probation terms, and work-pass sponsorship directly with Shangri-La before accepting an offer.
