Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago of more than 17,000 islands, offering varied opportunities in hospitality, tourism, technology, education, manufacturing and international business. Jakarta, on Java, is the main commercial centre and provides the broadest professional market, while Bali is especially strong for resorts, wellness, restaurants and events. Java is busy and highly urbanised; Bali offers a more relaxed lifestyle but can be expensive in popular areas. Sumatra, Lombok, Sulawesi and eastern islands provide nature-focused tourism and a slower pace of life. Indonesian culture values community, respect, hospitality and religious diversity. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate work visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Relocation planning should include accommodation, healthcare, transport, tax registration and local banking. Learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly beneficial, and candidates should confirm visa sponsorship and benefits directly with the employer before accepting an offer.
