The Commis 1 & 2 supports the Afya Restaurant kitchen team with food preparation, cooking, plating and maintaining consistent quality. Candidates should have basic culinary training or relevant kitchen experience, good knowledge of hygiene and food-safety standards, and the ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately. The role requires teamwork, stamina, attention to detail and flexibility to work shifts, weekends and public holidays. Experience in a hotel or restaurant kitchen is preferred. The successful candidate is expected to maintain a clean workstation, handle ingredients safely, support senior chefs and deliver efficient service in line with Shangri-La standards.
Shangri-La is a global luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. The group is known for personalised service, elegant facilities and strong attention to guest comfort. Its properties typically include restaurants, bars, wellness facilities, meeting spaces and leisure amenities. Shangri-La encourages colleagues to provide genuine hospitality while working in a multicultural environment. In the United Arab Emirates, the company operates established luxury hotels and resorts serving business travellers, families, leisure guests and high-end events. Employees commonly receive structured training and, depending on the position, benefits such as accommodation, meals, transportation, medical insurance and annual leave.
The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but its coastal cities and resort destinations offer many hospitality opportunities. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah regularly recruit chefs, restaurant staff, hotel operations teams and service professionals. The culture combines Emirati traditions with a highly international workforce; modest dress, respect for Islam and awareness of local customs are important. Lifestyle options range from beaches and shopping to desert activities, dining and cultural attractions. Employers generally arrange an employment visa and work permit after hiring, while medical checks and document attestation may be required. Many hotel jobs include shared accommodation, meals, transport, insurance and annual leave. Before relocating, confirm the written offer, working hours, accommodation standards, probation terms and all visa costs. The UAE has hot summers and a tax-free salary structure, although living costs can be high in major cities.
