Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology and professional services, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Johor. Island life in Langkawi or Penang is relaxed, warm and community-oriented, with beaches, nature, local markets and excellent Malay, Chinese and Indian food. Urban areas provide more transport, shopping and career variety, while resort locations may offer staff accommodation or meals. Malaysia is culturally diverse, and respectful behaviour, modest dress in traditional communities and sensitivity toward different religions are important. Foreign employees normally require an employment pass sponsored by their employer; approval depends on qualifications, salary and the role. Before relocating, confirm accommodation, medical coverage, tax status, working hours and flight arrangements. Costs are generally moderate, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular resort areas can be more expensive. Reliable internet and major amenities are widely available.
