Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, tourism, events, aviation, retail and international business, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Island destinations such as Langkawi and Penang combine beaches, outdoor activities and a slower lifestyle, while Kuala Lumpur provides stronger career networks, schools and urban amenities. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals and daily life. Foreign employees generally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer; the company normally handles approval and immigration procedures, and the role must meet current expatriate requirements. Before relocating, confirm salary, housing, insurance, schooling, tax treatment and transport arrangements. English is widely used in business, although learning basic Malay helps with everyday integration. Costs are moderate compared with many luxury-hospitality markets, but island living can be seasonal and more limited in specialist services.
