Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic destination combining a global business centre with traditional Chinese culture. Hospitality opportunities are available in luxury hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs, events and tourism, particularly for candidates with strong English, Cantonese or Mandarin skills. Life is fast-paced, convenient and highly urban, with excellent public transport, international dining, shopping, hiking and beaches. Rent can be expensive, especially on Hong Kong Island and in central districts, so many employees share accommodation or live in Kowloon or the New Territories. Overseas employees generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa, commonly under the General Employment Policy, and must obtain approval before starting work. The employer normally supports the application, while the candidate provides qualifications, experience and travel documents. Accommodation is not always included, so relocation planning should cover deposits, transport, insurance and living costs.
