Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in technology sales, consulting, shared services, cloud, cybersecurity, engineering and digital transformation, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and Cyberjaya. For island living or weekend travel, Penang combines heritage streets, food and a lively expatriate community; Langkawi is quieter, greener and known for beaches and outdoor activities; Sabah and Sarawak offer excellent nature, diving and indigenous culture. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and local traditions reflected in food, festivals and daily life. Living costs are moderate, although central Kuala Lumpur rents can be higher. English is widely used in professional settings. Foreign employees normally require employer-sponsored permission such as an Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process. New arrivals should check current immigration rules, arrange health insurance and research housing, transport and schooling before relocating.
