Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor, with roles in software development, cloud, cybersecurity, shared services and enterprise integration. For island living, Penang combines a strong technology sector with historic George Town, beaches, diverse food and a relaxed lifestyle. Langkawi is quieter and scenic, but has fewer professional opportunities and often requires remote work or relocation to the mainland. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in business. Living costs are moderate, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular expatriate areas are more expensive. Legal employment normally requires an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the employer usually manages the application. Candidates should verify eligibility, salary thresholds, medical requirements and dependent-pass options before moving. Reliable internet, international schools and modern healthcare are available in major urban areas.
