Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in technology, shared services, consulting, finance, engineering, digital marketing and creative design. Kuala Lumpur and nearby Selangor provide the largest employment market, while Penang is known for electronics and manufacturing, Johor for logistics and regional business, and Sabah and Sarawak for tourism, energy and natural-resource industries. The country’s culture combines Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, reflected in its food, festivals and languages. Urban life is convenient and relatively affordable, with modern transport, shopping and healthcare, while island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang and parts of Sabah offer beaches, diving and a slower lifestyle. Foreign professionals generally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process. Candidates should confirm eligibility, salary thresholds and dependent arrangements before relocating. English is widely used in corporate workplaces, although learning basic Malay is helpful.
