Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor, with consulting and shared-service employers often hiring enterprise software, cloud and data professionals. For island living, Penang is the most practical choice, combining a strong technology sector, heritage neighborhoods, beaches and a diverse food culture. Langkawi offers a quieter, resort-oriented lifestyle but fewer corporate jobs. Sabah and Sarawak provide distinctive cultures, nature and lower-density living, although specialist roles are more limited. Malaysia is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in business. Living costs are generally moderate, though Kuala Lumpur and central Penang are more expensive. Foreign employees normally require an Employment Pass sponsored by the employer, and dependants may need separate passes. Before relocating, confirm sponsorship, medical coverage, tax treatment, housing and travel requirements. Public transport is strongest in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, while island areas usually require a car or ride-hailing.
