Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and on Borneo in Sabah and Sarawak, with demand for cloud, enterprise applications, cybersecurity, data and consulting professionals. Penang combines a strong technology and manufacturing scene with a relaxed island lifestyle, while Langkawi is quieter and tourism-focused. Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest job market, international schools, healthcare and public transport. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business. Living costs are generally lower than in Singapore or major Western cities, though central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. Foreign professionals usually need employer-sponsored authorization, commonly an Employment Pass; the employer normally handles the application. Confirm eligibility, salary thresholds and dependent rules with Malaysian authorities before relocating. Consider housing, insurance, taxation and schooling before accepting an offer.
