Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities mainly in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang, and Johor, with roles in AI, data engineering, cloud, telecommunications, and consulting. For island living, Penang is the most practical choice, combining a strong technology sector, excellent food, heritage culture, beaches, and relatively easy access to mainland Malaysia. Langkawi provides a quieter lifestyle, beaches, outdoor activities, and a growing tourism economy, but fewer specialized technology jobs. Sabah and Sarawak offer distinctive cultures, nature, and lower-density living, although major corporate opportunities are concentrated in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. Malaysia is multicultural, generally welcoming, and English is widely used in professional settings. International hires usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass; requirements depend on salary, qualifications, and role. Relocating involves securing sponsorship, arranging accommodation, healthcare, banking, and tax registration. Public transport is strongest in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, while island locations often require a car or scooter.
