Destination Guide

Malaysia is not one island but a country divided between Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo, with popular islands such as Langkawi, Penang and Tioman. Major job opportunities are concentrated in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor Bahru, particularly in technology, shared services, finance, manufacturing and digital consulting. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in professional workplaces. Living costs are moderate compared with many global technology hubs, while food, public transport and healthcare are generally accessible. Foreign professionals normally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer; requirements depend on salary, role and nationality. Relocating to Kuala Lumpur offers the broadest career market, while Penang provides a slower pace and strong technology presence. Always confirm current visa rules with the employer and Malaysian authorities.
