Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor, with demand in cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, software, shared services and consulting. Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest employment market, international schools, healthcare, public transport and a varied urban lifestyle. Penang combines a strong technology and manufacturing economy with beaches, heritage areas and a slower pace. Langkawi and other islands are popular for holidays rather than major technology employment. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in professional workplaces. Living costs are moderate compared with Singapore, though central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. Foreign employees generally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with approval and medical or immigration requirements depending on nationality and role. Before relocating, confirm salary, benefits, visa sponsorship, taxation, housing and healthcare arrangements with the employer.
