Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in software engineering, shared services, cloud, cybersecurity, finance technology, manufacturing and consulting, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and Cyberjaya. For island living, Penang combines technology jobs, heritage culture, excellent food and a relaxed coastal lifestyle. Langkawi is quieter and more tourism-focused, while Sabah and Sarawak offer nature, multicultural communities and growing digital opportunities, though fewer corporate roles. Malaysian culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English widely used in professional workplaces. Living costs are moderate, but central Kuala Lumpur and Penang can be more expensive. Foreign employees normally need an Employment Pass sponsored by their employer; approval depends on the role, salary and current immigration rules. Relocating typically involves employer support, document checks, medical or immigration formalities and arranging housing, banking and insurance. Research transport, healthcare, taxes and school options before moving.
