Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in IT service management, cloud operations, cybersecurity, software development, shared services and consulting, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor. English is widely used in professional settings, while Malay, Mandarin and Tamil are also common; German can be valuable for European client support. The culture is multicultural, generally welcoming and relationship-focused. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with many Western cities, with excellent food, tropical weather, modern malls and easy access to beaches and islands such as Langkawi, Penang and Sabah. Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest career market, while Penang offers a more relaxed technology and manufacturing environment. Foreign professionals normally require employer-sponsored permission, such as an Employment Pass, before working. Employers usually manage the application, and requirements include an approved position, qualifications and salary thresholds. Plan for document checks, medical requirements and local registration before relocation.
