Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in enterprise technology, SAP, cloud, cybersecurity, software engineering, shared services, finance, manufacturing and consulting. Kuala Lumpur and nearby Selangor are the main employment hubs, while Penang is strong in electronics and engineering, and Johor benefits from its proximity to Singapore. For an island lifestyle, Penang combines technology jobs, heritage neighborhoods, beaches and excellent food; Langkawi is quieter and more tourism-focused, with fewer corporate roles. Malaysia is culturally diverse, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and international communities, and English is widely used in business. Living costs are moderate compared with Singapore, though central Kuala Lumpur rents can be higher. Employment normally requires an employer-sponsored work permit, such as an Employment Pass, and the company usually manages the application. Relocating candidates should confirm salary, medical coverage, tax status, schooling and housing before accepting an offer. Public transport is strongest in major cities, while island living usually requires a car or scooter.
